Characteristics:

- formerly known as Aster dumosus
- also known as "rice button aster"
- rare, localized
- somewhat like A. pilosus but stalk has series of tiny bractlets
- hairy stem
- few hairs on leaves
- very tiny leaves at top of plant (0.64cm long)
- moist, interdunal meadows is most common habitat
- northern limit near Michigan's "Tension Zone"
- native
