- OBL

- usually wand–like inflorescence, but different than S. speciosa
- rod–like, very long narrow leaves
- leaves have 1 main vein
- upper surface of leaves smooth
- basal leaves are long, narrow, with a few scattered teeth
- basal leaves sheathing stem
- smooth, reddish purple stems, NOT 4–sided
- shade intolerant

- confined to peatlands such as fens and bogs
