- arching stem is similar to A. lateriflorous, but leaf underside is uniformly hairy.
- underside of leaf hairy/fuzzy across entire surface
- spreads by elongate, creeping rhizomes (grows in groups)
- likes openings
- primarily in riverbottom forests, bottomlands, and floodplains
- mostly below Michigan's Tension Zone
