- FACU (commonly occurs in northern Michigan forested wetlands)

- tall shrub or small tree
- leaves are simple and opposite
- the two basal lobes of a leaf are typically not much more than a larger tooth along the serrated edge
- upper surface of leaf is dark green and smooth; strongly textured by the veins
- retains fruit into late summer or fall
