  • bottom of stem is round

  • lower half of leaf is flat

  • upper half of leaf is rolled up (involute), or canoe–shaped (no other sedge has this feature)

  • achenes typically very distinctive and somewhat acorn shaped when mature

  • often in boggy areas

  • native
